Peppara Wildlife Santuary

Location : 50 Kms from Thiruvananthapuram on hiruvananthapuram - Ponmudi Road (via Vithura)

Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is composed of the dense forests and the Peppara dam built on the Karamana River.The wildlife sanctuary covers an area of 53 sq.kms with the reservoir spread in an area of 5.82 sq.kms.


This sanctuary has tropical, evergreen and deciduous forests spread over an area of 53 square kilometers. The hilly parts of the sanctuary harbor tropical forests. These green forests are found at a height of 1000 meters or more. The lower slopes are ideal for tropical forests, and the foothills harbor the deciduous forests.

The mixed vegetation and topography of the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary ensure that there are many kind of bird and animals species found at the sanctuary. The elephants, tigers, panther and gaur are some of the larger denizens of the Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary. The smaller denizens include sambar, mouse deer, barking deer, and primates like langur, macaque etc. he birds include water birds like cormorants, egrets, kingfishers and kingfishers. Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is also famed for its butterfly population.

You can see these playful, many hued creatures flying from flower to flower, or frolicking with each other under the warm Kerala sun.

Sankhumugham Beach

Location : 8 kms from Thiruvananthapuram city and adjacent to the Thiruvananthapuram Airport and Veli Tourist Village
Sankhumugham beach has a long stretch of clean sand but the water here is not suitable for bathing. This beach provides good facilities like an indoor recreation club, children's traffic training park and a star shaped restaurant.

Long and wide sandy beach can accommodate tens of thousands. This beach is a favourite haunt of sunset watchers.
